The Best Time of Day for Engagement Photos in DFW
March 27, 2026 · 5 min read
Texas light is not gentle. Scheduling your session correctly does more for your photos than any location choice.
Golden hour is the default for a reason
The 75 minutes before sunset give you low, warm, directional light that flatters skin and separates you from the background. In DFW that means roughly 7:15 PM in June and 4:45 PM in December — plan your whole day around it.
When blue hour wins
If you want the Dallas skyline lit, shoot the 20 minutes after sunset. City lights come up while there is still colour in the sky. It is a short window, so we shoot golden hour first and finish downtown.
Making midday work
Sometimes the schedule forces a noon session. It is workable: we move into open shade, covered walkways or tree cover, and use the harsh light intentionally rather than fighting it.
Season matters too
October through early December is the most comfortable stretch in North Texas — mild temperatures, long soft light and colour on the trees. Spring is beautiful but unpredictable; we always hold a backup date.
